Would a Christian Make a Deal With the Devil?

The title question may be more difficult than it seems. I didn’t ask, “should a Christian make a deal with the devil”. Rather, I asked “would a Christian make a deal with the devil”. It’s a world of difference. In fact, potentially an eternity of difference.

On top of that, there’s going to be a reference to opening “the gates of Hell” coming up below. That claim is evidence of a huge misunderstanding of Hell. I’ll give you a clue – even if there will be gates to Hell later, there’s no need for them now – since Hell, as it’s defined in the Bible – is empty!

This is going to be Eden all over again. And everyone who follows this kind of thinking is the loser – even if unintentional.

Is this making a deal with the devil?

We’re about to look at a recent headline.

It’s about the U.S. war with Iran.

Remember, the U.S. President has essentially declared himself to be one of the greatest supporters of Christianity of all time.

He even briefly posted an image of himself that, by all appearances, was a merger of his face with Jesus, complete with symbolic images to make the point.

And yet, we also essentially appear to have the adjacent image as a stark contrast, given his recent statement about the war. The headline was:

What if the gates of Hell existed – and were opened?

As I mentioned at the top, there are a couple of huge issues with the idea of opening the gates of Hell.

Is there a key to the gates of Hell?

The only place a key controlling anything related to a place of punishment in the next life is a statement from Jesus in Revelation. It’s one sentence, part of one verse, in a passage where John describes what Jesus looked like and said in the vision.

Yes, Jesus said He holds the keys of death and Hades. Here’s the problem. Hades isn’t Hell.

In any case, know that they aren’t the same. I do want to point out, many Christians don’t realize this – mostly because modern English translations don’t make the distinction – even though it leads to incorrect beliefs. However, for someone who puts themselves out to be such extraordinary Christians as many in the current administration do – they should know this!

If there are no keys to the gates of Hell, what about about unlocking the gates of Hades?

Well, this one’s not going to go any better.

Who thinks they can get the keys of Hades from Jesus?

Does the person who claims to be so great, who puts out images comparing himself to Jesus, actually believe Jesus will give him the keys to the gates of Hades? It’s just not going to happen. We should all know that. And yet, the statement is what it is.

BTW, if he does believe this – are you OK with that belief? Or does it scare the ____ out of you? It should scare you.

Even if someone had the keys and opened Hades …

But, for the sake of continuing the thought, let’s assume he does get the keys. He opens up Hades. Now what?

Hades is a spiritual realm. No one in there has a body. The resurrection bodies don’t come until later. Like after judgment? Much later. There’s no value from them in a physical war.

Uh oh. I guess he didn’t realize that either.

This isn’t just a political leader with a misunderstanding, or who’s making a mockery of the Bible. It’s a person, putting himself in a position where he doesn’t belong. Even worse, millions of people who are trying to be true Christians fall for this and buy into the illusion being painted for them.

Would you make a deal with the devil?

So, let’s get real here? If you want this scenario – the devil poses as Jesus, offers to give you the gates of Hell so you can destroy your enemy, and the cost is minor – merely your soul, would you do it?

Some, I’m sure, would be willing to make the deal.

But let’s say you think you’re a Christian. Would you make the deal when:

• You know it’s got to be the devil posing as Jesus, because there’s no such thing as the keys to the gates of Hell
• You know that Hades is a spirit realm,
• You know that Hell is empty,
• You know you have to give up your eternal soul – in return for – well – a series of lies?

Now – what do you think of a leader who appears to be claiming to do all that? He’s claiming authority he doesn’t have. Claiming authority that belongs to God alone.

So – what do you think?

Would you follow someone who was ready to make a deal with the devil?

Ultimately, this isn’t about a man. It’s about a man that many are willing to, in very real terms, set up as a god above the God they claim to follow. He never says he’s God. Not directly. It’s implications. Mind games. Raising ideas.

But at the end of the day, if we go along with this, support it, look forward to it – are we starting to put another “god” above God?

Let me ask you – one final time, is this you? Is this really what you want?

Or do you want to return to the one true God who really does hold the keys to the gates of Hades? And the one who offered you forgiveness, salvation, and eternity with Him?
