“US joins Russia in UN vote against condemning Ukraine invasion”. That’s a real headline. Not fake news. It really happened. The U.S. refused to condemn Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. As of March 2026, we spent about $200 Billion dollars on a war we refuse to condemn. What does that say about us? What does it say about a country whose current administration – especially since we decided to rename the Defense Department to the War Department – spends that much money, and we can’t condemn the root cause of the war?

We don’t “officially” have any soldiers in the war, but from what records are available, it appears that dozens of American volunteers have been killed in this war. But we can’t condemn it.
Just try to imagine the adjacent image. Did you ever think that would happen in this country?
Did we really reach a point where we’d be face to face with evil, and not condemn it?
Not only not condemn it, but essentially join in with it.
We voted along with the country that attacked Ukraine.
We voted against the country we’re spending so much money for.
We voted against the country dozens of our citizens died for.
And for what?
Why?

Governments, administrations, and nations — in any era — will do what they do. That has been true from the beginning, and nothing I write will change that. It isn’t my goal.
My goal here is more like the little boy walking along the beach, picking up stranded starfish and tossing them back into the ocean. He can’t save all of them. But he can save some.
That’s my hope with every article: to reach the “some” who recognize how deeply the realities in this piece can shape their eternal souls — and who want to walk with Jesus in truth, clarity, and love.
Did we really refuse to condemn evil?
The headline on my news feed was, US joins Russia in UN vote against condemning Ukraine invasion. It included:
Whatever one thinks of the column’s language, NBC News reported a concrete moment that gave it weight. At the United Nations on a Monday in recent weeks, in the same hall where American diplomats spent decades confronting Moscow, Washington’s envoy joined Russia in voting against a resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
NBC News reported that the vote followed a week in which Trump appeared to side with Russia against Kyiv, announced plans to negotiate a peace deal without Ukraine at the table, and blamed Ukraine for a war that began with Putin’s full-scale invasion. Western officials told NBC that China is “the real winner” of the reversal.
There seems to be no doubt here: Washington’s envoy joined Russia in voting against a resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Did we refuse to condemn, or was it something else?
I wish I could say we just refused to condemn the evil. But I think it was worse than that.
This administration is so vocal about being so “pro-Christian”. And yet, their words and actions indicate little to no actual Christian teaching, behavior modeling, action, etc. from the New Testament. They are very far from what Jesus commanded us to do.
Maybe you remember when Jesus was asked about the Greatest Commandment.
The Greatest Commandment – Matthew
22:34-40 pp — Mk 12:28-31
Mt 22:34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Mt 22:37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Love. God’s kind of love. There’s none of it in that vote to side with the perpetrator. None of it in the vote to refuse to condemn evil.
It reminds me of what Jesus said in Revelation – the letter to the church in Sardis.
To the Church in Sardis – Revelation
Rev 3:1 “To the angel of the church in Sardis write:
These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. 3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.
Rev 3:4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. 5 He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels. 6 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
Yes, far too many people who claim to be Christian think what this admin does is actually from Jesus. The way I read the Bible, the words in this letter are so much more likely to be the case.
Sadly, far too many non-Christians also think these actions are Christian. And why not – they’re so vocal – so in your face – it’s not surprising. And yet, didn’t Jesus warn about the wolves in sheep’s clothing?
A Tree and Its Fruit – Matthew
Mt 7:15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
Mt 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”
Conclusion: When you can’t condemn the evil you do
The bottom line then is this – You can’t truly condemn evil when you do it yourself.
Think about Iran – a “preemptive” attack, followed by months of additional attacks after their leaders, army, navy, air force, and so on – were defeated, crushed, and wiped out many times over.
Think about Venezuela – a “one day war,” he called it. We kidnapped their leader. Put someone else in power. Are taking their oil. And when they were hit by a massive earthquake – gave them back a tiny little amount for recovery.
When we do things like this, then, when we do have an opportunity to confront evil – we find ourselves in a difficult position. We have to condemn the very things we do ourselves.
No, we personally aren’t in the same position as the events presented here. This is our government. And yet, the more we find ourselves supporting, defending, or even promoting those who do these things, the easier it becomes for us to do them in our personal lives.
A “government ” isn’t judged by God. The people in the government – they are judged. But – the individual people make their own choices and will be judged based on those choices.
The thing is, we need to understand how our own individual choices are affected by things like what you just read. There’s no government immunity at God’s judgment. Those people won’t be there with you at God’s judgment. And we can’t blame someone else for our choices.
We stand on our own. We will bow a knee. But – will we bow because we love God – or will we bow because we love what someone else is doing and we elevated them over God?
Choose wisely, and if you’re Christian, choose with discernment from the Holy Spirit.
