Signs of the End of the Age

So many people look at the news – local, state, country, world – it doesn’t matter. So much of it tells us the world is falling apart. And it certainly does seem that way.

But then, good news doesn’t sell. Happy news doesn’t make anyone much money.

And these days, it’s hard to tell if what we see is even real. It’s not the old “Is it real – or is it Memorex?” Now, it’s real news being called fake. It’s fake news, generated by AI, looking more real than “real life”!

And yet…

For Christians, we have this warning from Jesus about the Signs of the End of the Age.   It includes this, from the Gospel of Mark.

13:1-37 pp — Mt 24:1-51; Lk 21:5-36

Mk 13:1 As he was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”

Mk 13:2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

Mk 13:3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately, 4 “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?”

Mk 13:5 Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you.

Here, we’ll look at things that look like the end – and try to be as discerning as possible in an attempt to not be deceived when someone says this is the end.
