Which “god” can save?
This site is under construction-but the question is already live.
Is it the God of the Bible who calls for our full allegiance? Or the gods of politics, civic virtue, and government-especially when they’re wrapped in religious language and moral urgency?
I’m building this space to explore how Scripture speaks to Christians navigating loyalty, identity, and public life. Not to provoke – but to prompt reflection.
My goal is clarity, not conflict. I invite readers to think deeply about what the Bible says about allegiance, worship, and trust – especially in a world full of competing saviors.
What kind of topics will be included?
One of the early topics will be something on immigrants. Christians should remember, immigrants were important in both Genesis and Exodus.
Genesis introduced Abram, who was renamed to Abraham, and would become of the father of a great nation. By this time, we now (should) know three different “nations” claim Abraham as their “father”. Jewish people, throughout both the Old and New Testaments. Christians, as foretold in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament. And since the 7th century, Muslims, by way of Ishmael.
Exodus brings us Moses and the migration of probably between 1 and 2 million people. The Bible records over 600,000 men if fighting age. The total numbers are then extrapolated by adding estimates for older men, children, and women. In any case, the numbers were huge.
Matthew’s Gospel records the flight to Egypt of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph to escape the mass killing of male babies by Herod. Yes, a small group of immigrants, and yet a very important one. But then, each and every one of God’s children is important to Him.
Throughout the Bible, both Jews and Christians are command to care for widows, orphans, and immigrants. And yet, look where we are today. Not just in America but in so many countries around the world.
How did we get here? Well, the answer to that is seen in Revelation. The End. It tells us of things that must and will come.
Whether it’s immigrants or any other topic in the Bible, we must acknowledge something about learning from the Bible.
How do we learn from The Bible?
- Start by reading the Bible.
- Take the time and effort to learn:
- about what the Bible says;
- what the Bible said to the people from when it was written;
- from that what the Bible means for us today.
- With the help of the Holy Spirit, try to live according to God’s Word – Jesus – as He command us.
That’s what to expect from this site. I won’t tell you what to believe or do. I will tell you what I believe, as well as what various scholars through the ages have believed – even if I don’t agree.
Why?
Because, ultimately, each of us must “own our own faith”. If you face the Great White Throne Judgment, you will be standing alone. I won’t be with you. Whoever you get your beliefs regarding Christianity won’t be with you either. It’s your faith – or lack of faith. Better to own it now than to wait ’til it’s too late to see if your wishes about God were correct or not.
